Japanese Room Screen
Walnut & Douglas Fir. Embossed copper. This free-standing room screen, or tsuitate, is the result of a collaboration with my son's Kindergarten class at St. Anne's School of Annapolis. Each of the kids in the class drew creatures from the sea on paper and then, with a bit of help from a few parents and teachers, embossed their images onto copper squares. I designed and made the screen to showcase their wonderful little creations. The screen design is a free-standing variation of the better-known shoji screen and is my take on similar screens done by Craig Vandall Stevens. A detail shot of the book-matched, 1/4 in. thick 'hipboard' is here.
